Just a mile down the road from our Lake Forest apartments lies a gem serving the community with a wealth of local information. Whether you’re a history buff or are just curious about your town, you can learn more with programs and information from the History Center of Lake Forest-Lake Bluff. The museum’s primary focus is showcasing and researching community history with an emphasis on diverse voices and experiences. Here are a few ways you can get involved with the History Center while social distancing.
Lake Road Walking Tour
The History Center has a document for people to use on a self-guided walking tour to learn more about the community. It starts at the southern end of Lake Road and heads north. Along the way, you’ll learn about several historic houses built in the 1900s and the families who lived there. You’ll also get a taste of different architectural styles, from modern to Italian Renaissance, and how they’ve changed over time. Before you embark on this tour, be sure to wear a mask and maintain a distance of six feet from others. Enjoy!
The Center offers online archives for the general public to explore. Get a basic understanding of local history with a timeline of major events in the area, or take a look at the Lake Forest city charter from 1861. You can also get access to several online databases to view historical newspapers and official city records. The online exhibit has a collection of photos of individuals, events, and buildings from the past that you’ll enjoy perusing.
